Duncan was born in a moving city on Zayith. When he was 16 he was press ganged into the local army to fight against another moving city on the planet. Resentful of his role he managed to get a place in a scouting unit as far as possible from mindless charges to certain death.

On one patrol he found a space marine called Wulfaz and saved his life. Wulfaz took him as a guide and took over the moving hive city for his own goals. At the same time remnants of the Rogue Trader Aheron Tiberius’s crew got stranded on the planet and with Wulfaz’s help Duncan managed to tag along and become a Seneschal for the Tiberius Dynasty and eventually leave the planet with them.
